Mac User? Why Not?
By Mike G Wells
White exterior, vivid interface, power hard drive, compact design packed with functionality, and an apple mark signifying high-quality and sensible invention. The Mac. Who wouldn't want that?
The long-standing debate for Mac versus Windows has kept many of those computer users on the edge waiting for reasons to cross that line to Mac zone. Yet, Mac boasts of several deciding features that only need to be relayed to those in doubt or in the dark. That's you.
For one, it's a fallacy that when you're a Mac user, you're alone in this Windows-dominated society. Mac's Tiger operating system fits into Windows networks without a glitch. You can share files. You can share printers.
You can open and edit Mac-made files in Windows and vice versa. Many programs have now Mac versions like, to cite a few, MS Office, Photoshop, and Corel casting your doubts regarding compatibility issues. Sometimes, the Mac version is even better. Take MS Word. Its notebook layout view with index tabs is ideal for note-taking and typing down thoughts and organizing them. Word for Mac can even convert doc files into PDFs easily.
Cameras, phones, PDAs, and digital audio players have installers for Mac. You can also synchronize data on these gadgets with your Mac computer using Mac sync.
The only drawback of Mac users, for now, is the unavailability of certain software for Mac like AutoCAD. But there have been petitions for their Mac versions. It may be just a matter of time.
Other than that, Mac is perfect. Perfect for iPod, the slim but heavily-loaded (byte-wise) craze in digital audio players. Complementing this is iTunes, Mac's media player. Although Windows Media Player has a Mac version already, iTunes is above its league. Simply plug iPod and iTunes plays instantly. Copy and transfer files from iPod to iTunes trouble-free, and vice versa. With iTunes, you can also choose what you want to play by artist, genre, album, recently played songs, or your top-rated choices.
Mac is also perfect if you suck in remembering your filing system. With Spotlight, finding a file is a whoosh. Type in the file name and instantly, files bearing that name appear, categorized by application type, folder, and file type.
Mac has a lot of functionality features designed for speed and efficiency. Do you know it's virus-free? Of its great animations controlled by a slight touch? You need to get your hands on real Mac to see for yourself. Or this article would go on forever. If you're still not a Mac user, do yourself a favor. Go check Mac now and ask yourself, why not?
